Nice quiet lanes apart from the start and the end of the walk.

The 7:40 train to Arles was delayed by 30 minutes. This made Neil miss the return train by about five minutes resulting in a four hour delay. Luckily it was warmer. The wait was not too bad and it allowed time to get the shopping in for the following day's picnics. Rather than wait without shelter at Saint Martin de Crau, Neil took the bus back to Arles, did the shopping and set up camp in Arles station. The old town is really rather nice so the time was not wasted.

The walk was pleasant but flat farm land is not that exciting. After about 3 km, the roads became quiet all the way to Saint Martin. The route ran close to the Canal de Craponne so there was some slight amusement to be derived from the signs. Between the town and the station nearly 2 km further south there were some busier roads.

There are only a couple more days of flat terrain before the Rhône Alpes begin. Then it stays mountainous well into Italy. It's time to buy "Get By in Italian". In the south west of France the signs in the stations all have Spanish translations. Now the translations are all in Italian.

Transport Costs: EUR 19.70.
