This is one of the nicest short walks close to Beccles. Unfortunately the riverside route is not a right of way. I have been walking this path since about 1968. At that time the route was open and there were no "Keep Out" signs. I still walk the route from time to time, ignoring the signs and I have never been challenged or sent back.

    Distance  Minutes Total
A) Start at the south end of Ballygate at the Beccles town sign. Head west along the main Bungay road and at the first opportunity turn right into the meadow. 50 Yds 1 1
B) Cross the meadow keeping right and head down the small hill. 140 Yds 2 2
C) When you reach the road, turn right into Puddingmoor and head east for only 50 yards. 50 Yds 1 3
D) Turn left into the gated road. This is not a right of way. 370 Yds 5 8
E) At the river, cross the small bridge and turn left to follow the riverside path. Stay on this riverside path for nearly a mile. 1620 Yds 20 28
F) Just before the brick built pumping station, turn left and head south beside the drainage ditch leaving the river behind you. 630 Yds 8 39
G) Here your path joins the Angles Way and you are back on a right of way. Turn left and head east. 250 Yds 3 39
H) Follow the track as it bends right. 110 Yds 1 40
I) Follow the track as it bends left. 560 Yds 7 47
J) At the main road, turn left towards Beccles and follow the small roadside track. 310 Yds 4 51
K) You could continue along the main road but, for a more pleasant alternative, soon after the "Pilgrims' Way" sign turn right onto the signposted path. 90 Yds 1 52
L) Take the first path to the left and walk through the Dell parallel with the main road. The path emerges near the town sign. 500 Yds 6 58
